I like being around lively people - and the children are lively!  - Senior Volunteer

Generations Together's Intergenerational Early Childhood Program (IECP) addresses the needs of very young children (birth to 5 years) and older adults for intergenerational connections. The areas in which IECP programs are building connections include:
  • Older workers in child care
  • Older adults as early childhood volunteers
  • joint programming for older adults (including frail elders) and young children
  • Co-located or shared sites facilities for children and older adults.
To support these enterprises, the IECP staff
  • works directly with older adults, children and parents to enable their meaningful participation in intergenerational early childhood programs.

  • offers consultation and technical assistance for professionals, including direct training for professionals from academic systems and early childhood and aging services to implement and strengthen intergenerational programs.

  • develops training curricula and designs training courses to support a variety of intergenerational programs.

  • conducts research into the impact of older adults on the development of young children.

Generations Together's technical assistance also includes the training of trainers to replicate intergenerational early childhood programs and facilitate the development of new initiatives.
